Muslims must not harm one another
“It is not permissible to fight one another.”
Muslims must preserve the brotherhood Allah granted them by holding to the Quran and Sunnah and never fighting, threatening, frightening, or violating one another’s blood, property, or honor.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Calls Muslims to unite around the Quran and Sunnah as Allah’s rope.
- Uses the reconciliation of Aus and Khazraj as an example of Islamic brotherhood.
- Condemns tribal, neighborhood, gang, and family-based fighting and weapon use.
- Cites warnings against killing, threatening, pointing weapons, and frightening believers.
- Emphasizes the sanctity of Muslim blood, property, and honor, comparing it with the Kaaba and sacred times.
- Urges repentance, mutual love, and rejection of Shaytan’s divisive calls to jahiliyyah.
In the khateeb's words
“Therefore, Ikhwan, it is not permissible to fight one another. He's not permissible to threaten one another. He's not permissible to carry weapons against one another. Because we are brothers in Al-Islam.”
“Whoever carries his weapons against us is not from us.”
“It is not even permissible, Yahwan wa khawat, to make a Muslim afraid of you.”
“the sanctity of the believer is greater than your sanctity in the sight of Allah, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that Allah unites believers through the Quran and Sunnah, just as He united the Aus and Khazraj as the Ansar. Because Muslims are brothers and sisters, fighting, threatening, carrying weapons, harming property or honor, and frightening others are forbidden. The speaker emphasized that a believer’s sanctity is even greater than the sanctity of the Kaaba, and that bloodshed is a grave sin. We should repent from these wrongs, protect one another, love one another for Allah’s sake, and reject division.
- What does brotherhood look like when people disagree?
- How can we make people feel safe rather than afraid?
- Why should we protect another person’s honor and property?
