Allah’s blessings call for gratitude and humility
“When we are down you can see how weak you are.”
In one sentence
Recognizing Allah’s countless blessings, especially faith, security, and provision, should lead believers to gratitude, humility in worship, and reliance on Him through life’s hardships.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens by praising Allah and urging reflection on His immeasurable blessings, beginning with the blessing of faith.
- Uses a convert’s experience to illustrate how precious belief in Allah can be.
- Presents security, family safety, and one day’s food as sufficient worldly blessings.
- Explains Allah’s sole sovereignty and the Qur’an’s role as warning and guidance toward Paradise.

- Concludes with supplications for guidance, healing, and freedom for unjustly imprisoned Muslims before prayer.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“this is in itself a ni'mah no one can weigh it”
“the whole dunya needs security if you have that nice security overnight this is half of the dunya”
“we only get arrogant when you stand on feet stand up and look high but when we are down you can see how weak you are”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that faith, safety, family, and food are precious gifts from Allah. We should respond by saying alhamdulillah and remembering that Allah’s blessings are too numerous to count. The Qur’an guides us through life and reminds us that Allah alone creates and provides. In sujood, we lower ourselves before Allah and learn to let go of arrogance. We should also pray for the sick and for people imprisoned unjustly.
- What is one blessing you sometimes forget to thank Allah for?
- How can sujood help us become less arrogant?
- Who could we remember in our du'a this week?
