Use each day before it passes
“Every single day is another golden opportunity.”
The changing day and night should awaken us to the brevity and value of life, so we use each day and night purposefully in worship, service, and good deeds while trusting Allah through darkness.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- The shortening days and lengthening nights are signs of Allah and reminders of life's brevity and death.
- Darkness, Palestinian grief, and Quranic dawn imagery point toward hope, divine wisdom, and Allah's non-abandonment.
- Life should not be treated as only worldly success; each passing day removes part of our lifespan.
- Listeners should use each day for knowledge, deeds, skills, and service, and each night for worship, reflection, and family.
- Time is equal capital for everyone, but forgiveness, charity, taqwa, and beneficial deeds can bring barakah to it.
In the khateeb's words
“in the darkness of this life look for those glimpse of hopes look for those moments of kindness gentleness greatness Allah has given you in your life”
“every day that passes some of it some of you goes away with it”
“every single day is another golden opportunity or otherwise the choice is yours the choice is yours”
“when it comes to the time it's your capital that's the capital that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given you in this life use it wisely”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that the changing day and night are signs from Allah and that our time is steadily being used up. Even in grief, confusion, or darkness, Allah has not abandoned us, so we should look for the hopes and kindnesses that help us find our way. Each morning is a new opportunity to grow in knowledge, worship, useful skills, and service, while the night can hold prayer, reading, memorizing, or quality family time. Time is the capital Allah gave us, and forgiveness, charity, taqwa, and other good deeds can bring barakah to the same twenty-four hours.
- What was one golden opportunity you noticed today?
- Where did you see hope or kindness this week?
- What good deed could bring barakah to our time tomorrow?
