Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that loving the Prophet means following his character, not merely arguing about how to mark his birth. We should treat Muslims from different backgrounds and schools as brothers and handle disagreements with patience and respect. The Prophet’s example calls us to listen carefully, speak truthfully, act honestly, and use wisdom rather than pressure when we talk with others. The khateeb also connected the remembrance of September 11 and concerns about school curriculum to a responsibility to participate peacefully in American civic life. Our faith should show up in our manners at home, in business, online, and in the wider community.

  1. When have you seen respectful disagreement bring people closer?
  2. Which prophetic manner would you most like to practice this week?
  3. What is one peaceful way our family could serve or participate in our community?
