Islam must shape every part of life
“Al-Islam is not just a religion; it is a way of life.”
Islam must be lived as a comprehensive way of life, guided by the Quran and the Prophet’s example, producing justice, compassion, humility, lifelong learning, and responsible conduct.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Islam is a comprehensive way of life whose guidance comes from the Quran, the Prophet, and trusted leadership.
- Quran 2:282 uses written contracts, witnesses, and clear expectations to prevent conflict and power-based oppression.
- Allah-consciousness should shape marriage, family ties, and treatment of neighbors, companions, travelers, and the needy.
- The Quran and Sunnah should filter education, ideologies, political pressures, racism, nationalism, tribalism, and gendered extremes.
- Wealth, status, and worldly loyalties should remain secondary to Allah, while prophetic examples teach steadfastness and trust in divine justice.
- Rituals should soften hearts and produce justice, compassion, humility, patience, halal joy, and lifelong learning.
- Rajab is presented as a time for increased prayer, fasting, charity, good deeds, peace, repentance, and community participation.
In the khateeb's words
“Al-Islam is not just a religion It is a way of life It is a foundational truth And it's not confined To just this building”
“And if nobody Will accept To write Such a contract Then it ain't Worth it In the first place”
For the dinner table
Islam is more than what happens on the prayer rug; it should shape our character, relationships, work, and responsibilities. The khateeb encouraged us to use the Quran and the Prophet’s example as our filter when facing social pressures and division. He highlighted clear contracts, family ties, kindness, and respect across differences as ways to practice justice. He also reminded us that wealth, status, and small disagreements are temporary compared with the Hereafter, so we should balance obedience with halal joy and patience. During Rajab, we were urged to increase prayer, fasting, charity, good deeds, peaceful conduct, and repentance while continuing to learn Islam throughout life.
- Where can we practice Islam outside the mosque this week?
- How could writing down an agreement make a relationship more fair?
- What is one good deed or act of learning we can do during Rajab?
