Turn concern into consistent action
“Allah chose you and I to be representatives of the greatest man who ever walked this earth.”
Because Allah chose Muslims to represent the Prophet, they should turn knowledge and concern into sustained, informed action while seeking Allah’s help and accepting that outcomes belong to Him.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Calls listeners to move from passive consumption of distressing news to meaningful action.
- Frames following Muhammad as an honor and responsibility to embody prophetic character.
- Uses the hadith of the strong believer to broaden strength across spiritual, physical, professional, civic, and communal life.
- Explains the method: pursue what benefits people, seek Allah’s help, and do not give up.
- Reframes failure through divine decree, intention, and control of effort rather than results.
- Gives a day-one plan involving education, community involvement, worship, and consistent small deeds.
- Closes with supplication and congregational prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“if you're not embodying change, if you're not going about changing or doing something or serving the religion of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam”
“Allah chose you and I to be representatives of the greatest man who ever walked this earth, Habibullah al-Mustafa sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
“It's day by day by day. It's deed by deed by deed. It's something that is small but is consistent.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that being followers of Prophet Muhammad is an honor we carry into everyday life. He urged us to turn what we know about other people's suffering into useful action, instead of stopping at watching videos or sharing messages. We can grow stronger in our faith, our abilities, and our service to others by taking small steps with purpose. When obstacles come, we should seek Allah's help, keep trying, and remember that we can control our effort but cannot control every result. Like drops of rain that gradually shape rocks, small good deeds done consistently can make a lasting difference, beginning today.
- What is one helpful thing you could do today because of something you learned?
- When something feels difficult, how could you ask Allah for help and take another step?
- What small good deed could our family practice together every day?
