Keep Allah's remembrance alive daily
“You don't know how much time you have to remember Allah SWT.”
Constant remembrance of Allah through worship, understanding the Qur'an, gratitude, reflection, and good conduct keeps the heart spiritually alive and prepares believers for the akhirah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Establishes worship as life's purpose and calls for constant awareness that Allah is watching.
- Defines dhikr broadly through salah, Qur'an recitation with understanding, and repeated reminders.
- Explains that meaningful remembrance revives the heart, strengthens faith, and supports trust during tests.
- Extends dhikr to daily duas, reflecting on creation, respectful treatment of people, and gratitude.
- Warns that forgetting Allah causes spiritual weakness and urges believers to use limited time for extra worship.
- Concludes by prioritizing the akhirah while maintaining worldly responsibilities.
In the khateeb's words
“When you're saying subhanallah, what does subhanallah mean? Subhanallah is glory be to Allah or, you know, you're praising Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, the one who has no faults.”
“Because at the end of the day, that other person is someone that Allah SWT created, you are someone that Allah SWT created.”
“For a Muslim, you don't know how long you have to go back to Allah SWT. You don't know how much time you have to remember Allah SWT.”
“You can say, "What extra could I do? Could I add something extra into my schedule? Is there another deed that I could be doing that will get me higher into Jannah?"”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah reminded us to remember Allah throughout our day, wherever we are. The khateeb explained that remembrance includes prayer, reading and understanding the Qur'an, making dua, and saying words of praise with attention to their meaning. He encouraged us to return to these practices regularly, like building a strong foundation for a house. Remembering Allah also means appreciating His creation and treating people with respect instead of looking down on them. As a family, we can notice the blessings we already have and find small opportunities to do more good.
- What everyday moment could become a reminder to remember Allah?
- What is one kind action you could take toward someone you sometimes overlook?
- What blessing did you enjoy today, and how could you thank Allah for it?
