Eid gratitude includes more than money
“What can I do with what Allah has given me?”
Eid should renew our gratitude for Allah’s abundant provision and move us to protect our spiritual health, cherish Islamic traditions, and draw our families and community closer through love and intentional action.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Gives thanks for Ramadan and asks Allah to accept worship while recognizing multiplied good deeds.
- Explains that Allah’s abundance includes provision beyond money: health, abilities, relationships, and time.
- Urges loud, joyful Eid takbir and gratitude, trust, and peace rather than comparison or self-doubt.
- Warns listeners to guard their souls and minds amid social pressure, anxiety, depression, and spiritual heedlessness.
- Calls families and the community to resist isolation, preserve Islamic traditions, and hold one another close.
- Closes with a challenge to practice love, understanding, kindness, sincerity, and purposeful use of Allah’s gifts.
In the khateeb's words
“And don't forget that whenever you do good The transaction is not just for the next life Because sometimes we sell ourselves short”
“If we are struggling In our families Pull everybody in Make up with each other Hold on to each other Because that's all we got”
“What can I do with what Allah has given me?”
For the dinner table
After Ramadan, Eid is a time to thank Allah for every blessing, not only money but also health, abilities, relationships, and time. The imam reminded us to celebrate openly, keep the takbir alive, and trust that Allah’s goodness is greater than we can measure. When life feels lonely or confusing, we should care for our souls and minds and remember that Allah made us with worth. We should protect our families and Islamic traditions by drawing people close, making peace, and choosing love over isolation. This week, we can ask what Allah has given us and use it with sincerity, kindness, and understanding.
- Which blessing from Allah do you notice most today?
- How can we bring someone in when they feel alone?
- What can you do with one gift Allah has given you?
