Trust Allah while taking lawful means
“We will run from the fate of Allah to the fate of Allah.”
Tawakkul means trusting Allah completely while using every lawful and practical means, then accepting the outcome with gratitude or patience.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Defines tawakkul as relying on Allah while taking lawful means.
- Rejects using prohibited methods even for noble goals.
- Uses study, medical treatment, Hijrah, Badr, Uhud, and plague examples to illustrate planning and trust.
- Warns against passive fatalism and relying solely on personal effort without dua.
- Explains Musa's use of the staff as an example of acting with available means.
- Summarizes four aspects of tawakkul through an interactive Kahoot session.
In the khateeb's words
“We will run from the fate of Allah to the fate of Allah.”
“The Khalifa is not the one who is sitting in the corner and just to rely on Allah.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah was about tawakkul: trusting Allah while doing our best with the abilities and resources He has given us. The khateeb explained that both our goals and the ways we pursue them should be good and permissible. He gave everyday examples such as studying carefully for an exam and seeking treatment when we are sick. He also described how the Prophet planned carefully for the Hijrah while placing his trust in Allah. We can practice this together by making thoughtful plans, working hard, asking Allah for help, and leaving the results to Him.
- What is something you’re worried about, and what useful step could you take while asking Allah for help?
- How would you explain the difference between trusting Allah and simply waiting for something to happen?
- What could remind our family to make dua even when we feel well prepared?
