Honor the Quran by living its message
Because the Qur'an reached us with ease but was received through difficulty, Muslims should honor its message by studying, reflecting, living by it, and serving their community.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Contrasts modern ease of accessing the Qur'an with the Prophet's difficult experience of revelation.
- Urges listeners to pair Qur'an recitation with understanding and reflection.
- Uses examples of Ubayy and remembrance of Allah to illustrate spiritual honor and responsibility.
- Calls for inner change, fulfilling one's covenant, community participation, and meaningful use of time.
- Closes with the command to rise, warn, study, practice, and convey the message appropriately.
In the khateeb's words
“Quran is a communication It's not something To be recited Simply in foreign language”
“The way we live and the way we return. Not the appearance of the return, but at the very least the extraction of the soul.”
“Each one of us has to be present in the masjid at some point.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah invited us to treasure the Quran and remember the hardship the Prophet endured in receiving its message. The khateeb reminded us that reciting the Quran brings blessings, and that understanding and reflecting on its message belong alongside recitation. He encouraged us to remember Allah and find comfort in knowing that Allah listens and responds. Through the story of Abdul Badi, who regularly gathered people to read the Quran, he showed how a steady habit can bring people together around faith. He asked us to begin changing what is within ourselves, use our time meaningfully, and take part in our community.
- What small habit could help you remember Allah during your day?
- How could we use something we enjoy or do well to help our masjid community?
