Every success calls for praise and forgiveness
“After every good action, after every achievement, after every success, we should praise Allah.”
Surah al-Nasr teaches Muslims to attribute every success to Allah's help, respond with gratitude and praise, and seek forgiveness after every good deed so success does not produce pride.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- The khateeb presents Surah al-Nasr as both glad tidings of Islam's spread and an indication that the Prophet's mission was nearing completion.
- He teaches that every success depends on Allah's help, even when people use ordinary means such as medicine or business.
- He urges shukr after every achievement, explaining that gratitude protects against pride, defeats Shaytan's pull toward ingratitude, and is sincere worship.
- He urges istighfar after good deeds, so believers notice their shortcomings, hope for acceptance, and receive relief from difficulties.
- The closing khutbah repeats Surah al-Nasr, asks for forgiveness and blessings, invokes justice and communal well-being, then gives mosque announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“nothing happens without the help of Allah . No success, no victory.”
“When a person is ungrateful to Allah , then this leads to many many other evils.”
“After every good action, after every achievement, after every success, we should praise Allah .”
For the dinner table
The khutbah explains Surah al-Nasr in two ways: it celebrates Islam spreading in large numbers, and it also signaled that the Prophet Muhammad's mission was nearing completion. The main lesson is that every success depends on Allah's help, even when we use ordinary means such as medicine or business. We should respond to good news and achievements with shukr, because gratitude protects us from pride and helps us recognize Allah's gifts. We should also make istighfar after good deeds, remembering that our worship has shortcomings and asking Allah to accept it. A simple family practice is to say alhamdulillah for blessings and ask Allah's forgiveness after doing something good.
- What is one blessing from this week that we can thank Allah for together?
- How can we celebrate success without becoming proud?
- What good deed could we follow with both praise and istighfar?
