Love the Prophet by following his Sunnah

“Nothing should come above the Sunnah of Rasulullah.”

The khateeb, at 16:14

In one sentence

The khutbah argues that genuine love for Prophet Muhammad is proven by prioritizing and practicing his Sunnah over personal desires, family pressure, and social conformity, while refusing to mock or casually tolerate mockery of it.

Try this week
Make the Prophet's Sunnah the deciding priority when family emotions, desires, wealth, or social pressure conflict with it.
Practice neglected Sunnahs and seek Allah's forgiveness for shortcomings rather than mocking others who practice them.
When people mock the Prophet or his Sunnah, defend it and leave the gathering if they continue until the conversation changes.
Send blessings upon the Prophet regularly.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that loving Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is more than saying loving words. His compassion for his ummah appeared when he was hurt at Ta'if and Uhud and when he asked about his ummah near death. We show love by letting his Sunnah guide us when family feelings, desires, wealth, or social pressure pull us elsewhere. We should never ridicule a Sunnah or quietly remain while others mock it. Finally, our loves and companions matter because a person will be with whom he loves.

  1. What is one Sunnah we can practice more carefully this week?
  2. When might social pressure make it hard to follow what is right?
  3. What kind of people and habits do we want around us?
