For the dinner table

Today's khutbah focused on the love, respect, and care owed to fathers, following an earlier reminder about mothers. The khateeb encouraged us to notice the steady effort behind meals, daily care, and our parents' hopes for our future. He reminded us that growing older and becoming independent does not end our responsibility to treat our parents kindly. Through Ibrahim's example, he showed that we can recognize a parent's mistakes and still speak respectfully. He also encouraged prayer and charity for parents who have passed away, and reminded both parents and children that each of us will answer to Allah for our own actions.

  1. What work went into our meal today, and how could we help next time?
  2. How could you express a different opinion to a parent with kind words?
  3. What would you like to ask a parent about the challenges they faced growing up?
