Return to Islam to unite the ummah
“Anything wrong cannot lead to good things as long as it is built on wrong things.”
The Muslim ummah can become genuinely united only by returning to Islam, the Quran, Sunnah, and prophetic guidance rather than relying on nationalism, race, politics, or worldly power.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Revisits division among Muslims through examples from Somalia and Arab countries.
- Contrasts Western unity, portrayed as interest-driven and historically imperial, with Islamic unity.
- Defines Islamic unity through one deen, the Quran, Sunnah, and Seerah, emphasizing the balanced ummah.
- Uses Quranic teachings to call Muslims to enjoin good, forbid wrong, and remain faithful.
- Argues that all prophets taught one divine religion and that prophetic guidance unites believers.
- Connects Muslim disunity to lost resources and current suffering before closing with supplication.
In the khateeb's words
“Though we do have the elements, the principles of being united and on the top of all of them, of course, Islam, the Quran, the Sunnah, and the seerah of Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
“The purpose is just to occupy as many countries and control the sources as much as you can in order to benefit from.”
“Because the one big factor, that bring that Ummah together, Deen-un-Wahid. That's it. Deen-un-Wahid.”
“Anything wrong cannot lead to good things as long as it is built on wrong things.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah asked what it really means to be the Ummah of Muhammad, a community united across languages, cultures, and countries. The speaker said that Islam, the Quran, the Sunnah, and the example of the Prophet, not race, nationalism, politics, or wealth, are the foundation of that unity. He taught that Muslims should be a balanced community, call people toward what is good, turn away from what is wrong, and follow the guidance Allah gave through His prophets. He ended by grieving current suffering and asking Allah to bring Muslims back to faith, unity, and mercy.
- What is one kind of division we can try to overcome in our family or community?
- How can we encourage something good this week?
- What does being balanced and fair look like in a disagreement?
