Prepare now for the Day of Judgment

“I have not created the jinn kind and the mankind except that they should worship me.”

The khateeb, at 12:06

The Day of Judgment is certainly coming, so believers must prepare for it by fulfilling their purpose of sincerely worshipping Allah, above all through the five daily prayers, and by calling others to worship Him.

For the dinner table

Imam Daud Haqq reminded us that the Day of Judgment is coming with no doubt about it, even though most people don't live like they believe it. He encouraged everyone to read Surah Ghafir, where Allah calls Himself Al-Ghafir, the One who forgives sin. Our whole purpose on this earth, he said, is to worship Allah, that's not a big job, and it's not hard, because Allah already gave us everything we need and removed every excuse. He warned that our deen has become routine and we've grown negligent, especially about salah, which is the very first thing Allah will ask us about, even getting up for Fajr when the Mu'adhan calls that prayer is better than sleep. He also asked Allah to have mercy on Brother Hassan Abdullah, a beloved community member who passed away this week, and reminded us that as people we know move on to the next life, we should get serious and prepare for our own meeting with Allah.

  1. If salah is the first thing Allah asks us about, what's one thing our family could do this week to protect our prayers?
  2. The imam said we worship something no matter what, what are some things people our age end up 'worshiping' without realizing it?
  3. What helps you get up for Fajr, and what makes it hard?
