True happiness begins with the heart
“True happiness is not based upon what a person owns or what a person possesses.”
In one sentence
True happiness is not found in wealth, status, or possessions but in the state of a person's heart and relationship with Allah, attained through gratitude, patience, prayer, remembrance of Allah, and engagement with the Quran, alongside gratitude for worldly blessings.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Opening khutbah formula and taqwa verses
- People seek happiness in money and status, but true happiness is the state of the heart
- The believer's 'good life' (hayatan tayyibah) means contentment: gratitude in ease, patience in hardship
- Prayer as a means of happiness: the Prophet's 'comfort of my eye' and seeking help through patience and prayer
- Dhikr and contemplative Quran recitation as tranquility and a cure for the heart's diseases (Ibn al-Qayyim)
- Four worldly means of happiness from the hadith of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqas: righteous wife, spacious home, good neighbor, comfortable transportation
- Detailed explanation of each of the four blessings
- Closing: gratitude preserves and increases blessings, followed by du'a
