Islam calls us to act now
“This deen was not meant to be practiced passively.”
Because life and the Hour are uncertain, Muslims should keep doing good, worshipping, and serving society immediately and persistently while leaving results to Allah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- He introduces the hadith of planting a palm-tree shoot even as the Hour begins.
- He teaches that Islam commands beneficial action for oneself and others at all times.
- He urges listeners not to delay worship or good deeds, emphasizing that there is no retirement from ibadah.
- He presents Islam as action-oriented, calling believers to be both Salih and muslih through community engagement.
- He explains that believers are responsible for acting sincerely, not for guaranteeing immediate results, using Nuh and other prophets as examples.
- He closes with prayers for two hospitalized community members, prayer-time announcements, and a brief masjid-support reminder.
In the khateeb's words
“If you have a chance To plant That Faseelah That Small palm tree In your hand Before The day of judgment Starts Please Do Plant it”
“This deen Was not meant To be practiced Passively This is An Action oriented Deen Do something Do khair Enjoying good Forbid evil”
For the dinner table
The khateeb shared the Prophet’s teaching to plant a small palm tree if we still have the chance, even as the Day of Judgment approaches. He explained that we should keep doing good for ourselves and others, even when circumstances are difficult. He encouraged us to act on opportunities for good instead of putting them off, because tomorrow is not guaranteed. Our faith also calls us to help our communities and take an active role in the world around us. We seek Allah’s pleasure through our efforts and leave the results to Him, remembering that someone in a future generation may benefit from what we do today.
- What is one good deed you could do today that you have been putting off?
- How could our family help someone in our neighborhood this week?
- What could you start now that might help someone long after you have grown up?
