Prayer & worshipFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 31, 2026.
Allah's love begins with following the Prophet
“My servant will not come close to me with something better than the obligations.”
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Opening recitation (Surah al-Fatiha and Surah az-Zukhruf) during the prayer portion of the recording
- Framing: how do we achieve the love of Allah?
- Quran evidence 2: Surah al-Ma'idah, Allah will bring a people He loves and who love Him
- Hadith qudsi (Bukhari): war against whoever opposes Allah's awliya; obligations then nawafil draw the servant near
- Explanation: awliya defined, Allah defends the righteous in their mihna
- Practical order: establish the five obligations first, then add sunan (sunnah prayers, sadaqah, umrah)
- Meaning of 'I become his hearing/sight': success in using limbs only in obedience; answered duas
- Closing Arabic duas asking Allah to make the congregation among those He loves
Try this week
Establish the five obligations first (five daily prayers, zakah, fasting, hajj) before adding voluntary acts
Do not perform sunnah prayers while neglecting the fard prayer they attach to (e.g., sunnah after maghrib but skipping maghrib itself)
After the obligations are solid, add the sunan: sunnah prayers, sadaqah, umrah
Turn away from haram: move away from sinful sounds, lower the gaze, never use hands or feet to reach places of disobedience
Seek Allah's acknowledgment rather than people's praise and appreciation
Sources the khateeb cited
Quran 5:54Quoted in Arabic and paraphrased: if believers turn away, Allah will bring a people He loves and who love Him, describing the traits of those Allah loves
Sahih al-Bukhari'Whoever shows enmity to a wali of Mine, I declare war on him; My servant draws near through obligations then nawafil until I love him', basis for the obligations-first ordering and the awliya discussion
