Truth requires evidence and care for the oppressed
“We don't have to shout, we don't have to scream, but we have to have our evidence.”
In times of global crisis and communal trial, Muslims should ground truth in evidence, strengthen personal and collective taqwa, help the distressed and oppressed, and uphold Qur'anic guidance.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Calls listeners to confront global events by defending truth with credible evidence.
- Uses historical distortion and Karbala to illustrate how truth can be misrepresented.
- Connects communal calamity with spiritual weakness and neglected duties.
- Identifies helping the distressed, assisting the oppressed, and mutual accountability as obligations.
- Presents Islam and the Ahlul Bayt as guides toward principled peace without aggression.
- Concludes with taqwa, charity, restraining greed, and prayers for the deceased and Imam al-Mahdi's reappearance.
In the khateeb's words
“we don't have to shout, we don't have to scream, but we have to have our evidence.”
“those individuals who are in distress, sometimes financial distress, sometimes mental, emotional distress, and there are so many distressors, that if we are able to help, we must help.”
“The purpose of our creation is not to shed one another's blood. Now we may have differences, no problem.”
“Success comes when we learn the responsibility of what we've been given by Allah SWT.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us to speak truthfully and support what we say with credible evidence. The khateeb urged us to strengthen our connection with Allah, both personally and together as a community. He emphasized helping people in distress, supporting those who are oppressed, and encouraging one another to fulfill our responsibilities. He also spoke about seeking peace and resolving differences with good manners. He reminded us that success comes through God consciousness and using Allah’s gifts responsibly, including giving to others and resisting our own greed.
- What could you do to check whether a story is true before sharing it?
- Who might need a little kindness or practical help from us this week?
- What is one thing Allah has given you that you could use to help someone?
