For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah focused on tawhid, the belief that Allah alone deserves worship, hope, fear, and reliance. The speaker reminded us that Allah knows everything we do, including what people cannot see. He warned that a sincere intention does not make an invented religious practice correct. We should ask what Allah and His Messenger taught before adopting a religious practice. At home, we can practice Allah-consciousness and make evidence-based choices in our worship.

  1. What choice might change if you remembered that Allah always knows what you do?
  2. How can we respectfully check whether a religious practice has evidence?
  3. Why is popularity not enough to prove something is part of Islam?
