Brotherhood must uphold justice

“Brotherhood in Islam and sisterhood does not descend into cruel tribalism in which Muslims support each other or their sect at the expense of justice.”

The khateeb, at 15:34

In one sentence

Islamic brotherhood and sisterhood require believers to unite around faith, purify their hearts, assume the best, uphold justice, support one another, and make sincere dua for Muslims in need.

For the dinner table

Islamic brotherhood is more than a warm feeling; it means treating fellow believers with mercy, support, and good character. The khutbah asks us to guard our hearts from hatred, avoid suspicion and gossip, and give people the benefit of the doubt. It also reminds us that loyalty to Islam includes stopping a Muslim from doing injustice, because true support helps protect their hereafter. We should privately pray for other Muslims, especially those suffering in Gaza, Sudan, and elsewhere. Each week, we can turn these teachings into action by repairing relationships, helping people in difficulty, and remembering the suffering in our sujood.

  1. What is one way we can give someone the benefit of the doubt this week?
  2. How can stopping someone from doing wrong be a form of support?
  3. Who can we remember in our dua tonight?
