Knowledge and humility transform your prayer

“We are speaking to Allah subhanahu ta'ala.”

The khateeb, at 21:50

In one sentence

Salah becomes more meaningful and transformative when worshippers prepare sincerely, deepen their knowledge of Allah, cultivate khushu, and carry that humility into their character and conduct.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Prepare the body for prayer and correct the niyyah before salah.
  2. Learn the pillars and obligations of salah, using prostrations for forgetfulness when needed.
  3. Grow in knowledge of Allah and the Quran so humility and khushu increase.
  4. Maintain and renew khushu through practice, dua, and attentiveness in every prayer movement.
  5. Let khushu soften speech, attitudes, and interactions with other Muslims.
  6. Close with supplications for guidance, accepted worship, Muslims and the oppressed, followed by an ethical reminder.

For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that salah begins before we stand: we purify ourselves and make a sincere intention to please Allah. He taught that growing in knowledge of Allah and practicing consistently can deepen khushu, the humble attentiveness of the heart. Khushu should show up not only in prayer but also in a softer tongue, attitude, and treatment of other people. During salah, we can remember that we are speaking directly to Allah and keep dhikr present through each movement. The khutbah ended with prayers for guidance, accepted worship, Muslims, and oppressed people in Gaza, Palestine, and elsewhere.
