The khutbah reminded us that gratitude, or shukr, was a defining quality of the prophets. True gratitude begins in the heart by recognizing that every blessing comes from Allah, continues on the tongue by thanking Him, and appears in our actions when we use His gifts well. Even during hardship, we can notice blessings we may take for granted, such as eyesight, hearing, health, and the ability to pray. We should use these gifts in worship and service rather than in disobedience. The Prophet’s example teaches us that gratitude does not depend on having an easy or luxurious life, and we can ask Allah after every prayer to help us remember Him, thank Him, and worship Him beautifully.
