Dua is a way of life
“Allah will either give us that thing that we're asking for, or He will reserve the reward for us in the Akhira.”
Dua is a continuous act of worship, not merely a request, that builds trust, humility, and faith, while Allah’s wise response is always beneficial even when it differs from what we ask.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Reframes dua as the essence of worship, building trust, closeness to Allah, and humility rather than merely obtaining needs.
- Urges constant dua for large and small matters, in ordinary moments, without wudu, ghusl, qibla, or a formal setting.
- Uses Qur'anic commands and prophetic teachings to explain that sincere dua is answered through provision, stored reward, or diverted harm.
- Connects a family habit of dua with stronger iman, tawhid, reliance, and certainty in Allah's wisdom.
- Applies the teaching to Palestine and Gaza, explaining that suffering and delayed outcomes do not mean prayers were rejected, then closes with supplications and condolences.
In the khateeb's words
“Dua is a lifestyle, it's an attitude that we live by more so than just asking and expecting to receive.”
“Allah will either give us that thing that we're asking for, or He will reserve the reward for us in the Akhira.”
“And honestly, getting into the routine of making dua and getting ourselves and our families and children into the habit of making dua is one of the greatest iman builders.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that dua is more than asking Allah for what we want. It is a way to build trust, humility, and closeness to Allah throughout everyday life. We can make dua anywhere and should teach our families and children to make it regularly. When we pray for people suffering, including our brothers and sisters in Palestine and Gaza, a delayed or different answer does not mean Allah ignored the prayer. Allah responds with wisdom, whether by giving what we ask, storing reward for the Hereafter, or preventing harm.
- What small thing could you remember to ask Allah for each day?
- How can our family make dua together more regularly?
- How does knowing Allah may answer in different ways change how we respond to hardship?
