Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Aug 15, 2025.

Put the Hereafter before worldly worries

“You should not ever make the dua to get the hardship, but you should be the man when you get it to handle it.”

The khateeb, at 33:36

In one sentence

True tranquility comes from balancing the physical self with the ruh and orienting one's purpose, actions, and priorities toward Allah and the Hereafter rather than worldly attachment.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Human desires usually prioritize wealth, comfort, family, and material success over spiritual needs.
  2. Allah grants sakina, or tranquility, during hardship, as illustrated by the Cave, Hunayn, and related Qur'anic verses.
  3. Faith provides answers about human purpose, fitrah, worship, guidance, and the unseen.
  4. Iman is not memorization alone; it must unite the heart, tongue, and actions in servitude to Allah.
  5. Attachment to the dunya produces worry, fatigue, and sorrow, while prioritizing the Hereafter brings inner richness and composure.
  6. Believers should live by halal means, accept Allah's decree, handle hardship faithfully, and seek Allah's pleasure.

For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that we have both physical and spiritual needs, and both deserve attention. He spoke about sakeena, or tranquility, as a calm and steady heart connected to Allah through faith. Knowing why Allah created us helps us look beyond money, possessions, and simply waiting for the weekend. He encouraged us to check our intentions and let faith show in our hearts, words, and actions. When difficulties come, we can remember that hardship does not mean Allah hates us, and we can seek His help while keeping our hope in the Hereafter.

  1. What could help us care for our hearts this week, just as we care for our bodies?
  2. How could you remind yourself to do a kind act for Allah even when nobody notices?
  3. What could our family say or do to support someone having a difficult day?
