For the dinner table

Today's khutbah reminded us that a stronger community begins with the work we do inside our own hearts. We need to let go of qualities like envy and arrogance and grow in compassion, generosity, and mercy. The khateeb taught that we should protect one another's physical safety, money, and dignity by being trustworthy, refusing backbiting, and avoiding looking down on others. He encouraged us to serve beyond what is convenient and to care about other people's needs as deeply as our own. Even when someone hurts us, choosing a better response can help kindness spread, beginning with one person and reaching a whole community.
