Live Islam before you share it
“Be a good example of Islam without opening your mouth.”
Because Allah mercifully sent messengers to deliver guidance, every Muslim must learn, embody, and responsibly share that message within their sphere of influence.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Allah’s mercy is shown by sending messengers with guidance beyond the universe, natural disposition, and human reason.
- The mind should receive, verify, understand, and implement revelation rather than judge Allah’s commands.
- Messengers delivered and embodied the message, with Prophet Muhammad as a living example.
- Believers inherit this duty, beginning with themselves and extending to family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
- Honesty, prayer, hard work, and ihsan communicate Islam when actions match words.
- Muslim wrongdoing can repel people from Islam, so believers must seriously present its true message.
In the khateeb's words
“The role of the mind concerning the message of Allah, the deen of Allah, is to receive it, verify its authenticity, comprehend its content, and implement it.”
“Forget about da'wah. Live Islam. Be a good example of Islam without opening your mouth. That's enough.”
“People learn with their eyes. You can give them a dissertation about Islam. But if you act opposite to what you just told them, you just destroyed everything that you gave them.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Allah sent messengers out of mercy to guide people in how to live. The prophets taught through their words and showed the message through their lives. We share the responsibility of passing on what we know, beginning with learning and practicing it ourselves and then sharing it with the people around us. Prayer, honesty, truthfulness, and doing our work well can help others see our faith in action. He urged us to take this responsibility seriously, care about others receiving guidance, and make sure our behavior supports what we say.
- What could someone learn about Islam by watching how we treat people?
- How could we show honesty or care at school or home tomorrow?
