Shaytan uses worldly priorities to divide families
“Your wives are not your enemy. Your husbands are not your enemy. Your children are not your enemy.”
The khutbah argues that Shaytan deceives Muslims through worldly priorities, corrupted beliefs, and family dysfunction, but humility, repentance, mercy, and Allah-centered relationships can overcome that deception.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduced ghurur as Shaytan’s deception and outlined its major forms.
- Warned against worldly and financial deception through riba, unethical business, and convenience amid oppression.
- Explained how modern ideologies can displace the Qur’an as the authority shaping Muslim beliefs.
- Examined deception within husbands, wives, parents, and children.
- Diagnosed transactional homes, algorithmic influence, and double lives as major family problems.
- Closed with repentance, family apology, removal of divisive influences, and prayers for oppressed Muslims and the deceased.
In the khateeb's words
“Do not let the glimmer of the coin blind you from the fire of the outcome.”
“And a home that is built only on transactions will be devoid of mercy.”
“Your wives are not your enemy. Your husbands are not your enemy. Your children are not your enemy. Your parents are not your enemy. Shaytan is your enemy.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Allah gives us many blessings, and we should respond with gratitude and responsibility. He described how deception can affect our choices about money, our beliefs, and our family relationships. Allah's mercy gives us hope, but it is not permission to keep doing wrong. At home, everyone has a part in choosing kindness, humility, and care instead of keeping score or always blaming someone else. He encouraged us to ask Allah for forgiveness, apologize to a family member we have hurt, and replace divisive influences with reminders that help us do good.
