Muslims must stand with Gaza
“Once you become a Muslim, you have an obligation and rights as a Muslim to the other Muslims.”
Muslims have a religious obligation to support suffering Palestinians through charity, ethical consumption, education, prayer, and fasting, remembering their accountability before Allah.
The khutbah in 4 steps
- Quraysh’s attempts to suppress Muhammad and the three-year boycott are presented as an example of injustice eventually being overturned.
- The suffering in Gaza is compared with the boycott, while Muslims are challenged not to become passive observers.
- Quranic and hadith-based teachings establish mutual Muslim responsibility and accountability on the Day of Judgment.
- Listeners are urged to support Gaza financially, boycott supportive goods, educate others about Masjid al-Aqsa, and maintain prayer and fasting.
In the khateeb's words
“Once you become a Muslim, you have an obligation and rights as a Muslim to the other Muslims.”
“It's not about supporting them, it's about supporting yourself in the day of judgment.”
“Each one of these two billion Muslims give a good effort.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that Muslims are responsible for caring about one another, especially people suffering in Gaza. The speaker connected this responsibility to the Prophet Muhammad’s community during Quraysh’s boycott and to accountability before Allah. He suggested charitable giving, boycotting goods he said support the opposing entity, learning and teaching about Masjid al-Aqsa, and making regular du'a while fasting some days. The message was that even small efforts matter when many people make them. As a family, we can choose one or two thoughtful actions and keep them going.
- What is one small way our family could help people in Gaza this week?
- How can we learn more about Masjid al-Aqsa and share what we learn?
- What would help us remember to make du'a regularly for people who are suffering?
