Small sincere deeds lead to Paradise
“Your aim and your objective in this dunya is the pleasure of Allah and winning the ultimate reward that is paradise.”
The path to Paradise depends on Allah’s mercy and sincere, sustainable acts of goodness, especially small kindnesses, humility, repentance, and forgiveness, rather than simply accumulating deeds.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Recites passages from Surah al-Kahf about the Cave, worldly wealth, and enduring good deeds.
- Introduces taqwa and argues that Allah’s mercy and sincerity, not deed-count alone, lead to Paradise.
- Urges moderation and sustainable worship, with rest and renewal rather than overexertion or laxity.
- Uses stories of sharing food, giving water to a dog, feeding the needy, and clearing paths to show that small sincere kindnesses matter.
- Calls Muslims to civic cleanliness, personal hygiene, repentance after tests, and humility.
- Describes Paradise as free from fear, sadness, rancor, and envy, and closes by urging forgiveness.
In the khateeb's words
“Your aim and your objective in this dunya is the pleasure of Allah and winning the ultimate reward that is paradise.”
“Don't overlook. Acts of kindness. Small things. That show you humanity as a Muslim.”
“Being a good citizen as a Muslim. Is an act of worship. Is not a pretentious activity.”
“Maybe you can't at least forgive. Maybe it will be stuck in your head. But at least. Say it. I forgive you.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that Paradise is reached through Allah’s mercy and sincere effort, not by counting deeds alone. Even small acts, sharing food, giving water, helping someone, or clearing a path, can carry great value when done sincerely. We should worship with balance, rest when needed, and return steadily rather than becoming extreme or careless. The speaker also encourages cleanliness, humility, quick repentance, and forgiving others for Allah’s sake. In Paradise, fear, sadness, envy, and resentment will be removed, so we should begin purifying our hearts now.
- What small kindness could our family do for someone this week?
- How can we make our worship more balanced and sustainable?
- What does forgiving someone for Allah’s sake look like in real life?
