Worship shapes our character and communities

“Everything you say, everything you do should be the right thing to do and the right thing to say.”

The khateeb, at 6:40

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah taught that worship is the reason Allah created us, but Allah does not need our worship; we need it. Ihsan means living with awareness that Allah sees us, so our words and actions should be good. Prayer, fasting, zakat, sacrifice, and du'a are meant to strengthen our bodies, hearts, character, and communities. We should remember how many people support our lives, share wealth fairly, and avoid excess when breaking the fast. The khutbah also urged us to pray sincerely for people suffering in Palestine, Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.

  1. What is one act of worship that helps you become kinder or more responsible?
  2. Who helped you become who you are, and how could you show gratitude?
  3. How can our family pray for and care about people suffering in other places?
