Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Dec 6, 2025.

Use your time before it runs out

“Awareness of aging should push us.”

The khateeb, at 8:40

In one sentence

Because youth, strength, health, and time inevitably diminish, believers should immediately discipline their attention and invest their remaining time in worship and preparation for the Hereafter.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Youth and strength are temporary gifts that should be used before they fade.
  2. Aging makes time increasingly scarce and valuable.
  3. Useless gatherings and digital distractions fragment attention and weaken discipline.
  4. Believers should choose beneficial content, finish what they start, limit online time, and read.
  5. Reaching sixty removes excuses and should prompt repentance and increased worship.
  6. Everyone should begin rectifying themselves now rather than waiting for old age.

For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that our youth, health, energy, and time are gifts from Allah that will not last forever. This reminder should encourage us to act, rather than leave us feeling hopeless. He encouraged us to choose our activities and friendships wisely, avoid gossip, and protect our attention by choosing beneficial content, limiting time online, and reading physical books. He especially urged those who have reached 60 to increase in repentance and worship, while reminding everyone that we do not know how much time we have. We can still enjoy what Allah has made halal, and we can start today with small habits that help us pray, read Qur’an, remember Allah, and do good.

  1. What is one way you could use your energy to please Allah this week?
  2. What beneficial thing could you choose before opening a video app?
  3. What could we do together as a family to make more time for Qur’an or good deeds?
