For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah teaches that time is our greatest treasure, and the Hijri calendar helps us notice when Allah has given certain days and months special importance. Muharram begins the Islamic year, and knowing the Islamic months helps us plan worship and responsibilities such as fasting, Hajj, and zakat. Ashura, the tenth of Muharram, recalls Allah’s rescue of Musa and the Children of Israel; the speaker encouraged fasting the ninth and tenth or the tenth and eleventh. We should use our time intentionally, seek barakah, follow the Sunnah, and turn these opportunities into closeness to Allah.
