Faith must endure victory and loss

“Your victory or lack thereof, your wealth or lack thereof, your military power or lack thereof is not a sign of Allah's love.”

The khateeb, at 6:11

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that history moves through changing seasons of victory and loss. Worldly power is not proof that Allah loves someone; faith, character, justice, and obedience matter more. When people suffer, we should keep hope in Allah while still doing what we can to oppose oppression. We should keep praying, care for our families, act justly, and earn and spend honestly. Like people rebuilding their homes after destruction, believers can face hardship with trust and determination.

  1. How can we keep hope while still taking action against injustice?
  2. What does obedience to Allah look like when life is going well or badly?
  3. What responsibilities come with having power, wealth, or influence?
