Hope in justice demands daily action
“Act upon justice in every aspect of life, in our daily lives.”
Hope in Imam al-Mahdi and the Quranic promise of righteousness should inspire people to actively pursue justice in daily life.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Interprets the Quranic promise that the righteous will inherit the earth, emphasizing inclusivity.
- Connects belief in eventual justice with hope amid wars, calamities, and despair.
- Relates Imam al-Mahdi, Imam Husayn, and Karbala to restoring justice.
- Defines Islamic saviorship as a hybrid of divine rescue and human activism.
- Calls listeners to practice justice, support divine leadership, prepare for the advent, and emulate righteous prophets.
- Encourages dua and memorization of verses associated with Prophets Yusuf and Sulaiman.
In the khateeb's words
“It is not limited, you know, to the Shia Islam or to the Muslims. Muslims know this is the whole world.”
“It means that we have to prepare ourselves. When we think about Imam Mahdi that he is restoring the justice, this should inspire us to act upon justice in every aspect of life, in our daily lives.”
“It means that you have to come forward. And you have to get inspired by the spirit of Imam al-Zaman, salawatullah alayhi, to promote the justice.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb taught that the Quran gives people hope that righteousness and justice will ultimately prevail. He explained that Imam al-Mahdi represents this hope, but Islamic saviorship also calls people to become active partners in resisting injustice. Waiting, then, means preparing ourselves, practicing justice in daily life, and supporting the cause of justice rather than sitting passively. He encouraged us to pray to be among the salihin and to learn from Prophets Yusuf and Sulaiman as role models. Even in times of war, calamity, or sadness, our faith should keep us hopeful and committed to good.
- What is one fair thing you can do this week?
- Why might waiting for something important require action?
- Which prophet would you like to learn from, and why?
