For the dinner table

This week Sheikh Jaffer told us that Allah is perfectly wise, so He never creates anything without a purpose, and that is one reason we know there is a life after death. We are given amazing abilities to grow in our minds, our character and our spirit, but this world is too short for us to fully grow, so the hereafter is where that growth is completed. What we become there depends completely on what we do here, the way a big, beautiful tree comes from a seed planted many years before. The Qur'an tells us that we are always working our way toward Allah and that we will meet Him, so every choice we make, even small ones, matters. The Sheikh reminded us that the next life doesn't make this life meaningless. It is the very thing that gives this life its meaning.

  1. What is one good 'seed' you planted today that could grow into a tree in Jannah?
  2. If you could ask for anything in paradise, what would it be, and why?
  3. Can you think of something you do just because it's the rule, and how might it feel different if you did it because Allah loves it?
