Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 3, 2026.

Make the hereafter your central goal

“We are planting the seed in this world.”

The khateeb, at 10:52

In one sentence

Because worldly life is brief and people naturally forget the eternal hereafter, believers should continually recalibrate their intentions toward Allah and let that goal shape worship, work, choices, and dua while maintaining balance in worldly life.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. Remembering that this temporary life is preparation for the eternal hereafter.
  2. Treating work, family care, and community service as worship through sincere intention.
  3. Auditing one’s dua to ensure it includes lasting success, not only worldly benefits.
  4. Making the hereafter the central concern to gain tranquility and ordered worldly affairs.
  5. Choosing Jannah, prayer, lawful conduct, and self-accountability over temporary pleasure and status.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that this life is short, while the next life is lasting, so money, status, and daily pressures should not become our only goals. We can still work, care for family, and serve the community, but we should do these things with the intention of pleasing Allah. The speaker encourages us to examine our duas and ask for goodness in both this world and the next, especially Jannah and protection from the Fire. When the hereafter becomes our main concern, our hearts can become calmer and our worldly affairs more balanced. This week, we can strengthen prayer, guard our speech and earnings, and pause to ask what we truly want.

  1. What ordinary task could we turn into worship by changing our intention?
  2. What would you include in a dua asking for goodness in both this world and the next?
  3. What is one prayer or character habit we can strengthen this week?
