Salawat brings peace and closeness to the Prophet
“Allah illuminates his heart, forgives his sins, puts his heart at ease, and makes his matter easy.”
The khutbah teaches that abundant salawat cultivates love and closeness to Prophet Muhammad, brings spiritual benefits, and should become a daily and Friday practice.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The khutbah opens with companions’ longing for nearness to the Prophet and Jannah.
- It presents salawat as worship and explains rewards including blessings, erased sins, raised ranks, ease, and answered supplication.
- Stories about the Sirat, Qubayb, and angels illustrate salawat as help and as a greeting reaching the Prophet.
- The khateeb urges listeners to build salawat into daily routines, including family car rides.
- He gives Friday-specific guidance: increase salawat, consider a 1,000-salawat goal, and use the Abrahamic prayer.
- He closes by linking salawat with remembering the Prophet’s seerah, loving him, and following him with longing and hope.
In the khateeb's words
“Know that no Muslim servant Sends abundant salawat On Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Except that Allah Illuminates his heart Forgives his sins Puts his heart at ease And makes his matter easy”
“Then all of your worries Will be gone All of your anxiety Will be gone All of your problems Will be gone And your sins Will be forgiven”
“But following the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Isn't the only thing That we should follow It's about following After him With love Longing And hope Of being near him Like the companions did Radiallahu anhu”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah encouraged us to send more peace and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad, a practice called salawat. The khateeb described it as a way to nurture love for him and hope for closeness to him in the next life. He encouraged us to include salawat in our du'a and give it special attention on Fridays. He shared how doing salawat with his children in the car helped turn a stressful school commute into a time of remembrance. As we send blessings, we can remember the Prophet's generosity, mercy, and tenderness with his grandchildren, and let that love guide our own behavior.
- When could we try doing salawat together during our usual family routine?
- What would you like to learn about the Prophet's kindness to children?
- How could you show generosity or mercy to someone tomorrow?
