Love for Allah brings divine love
“When you love your brother for the sake of Allah, rejoice.”
The khutbah teaches that loving one another solely for Allah’s sake, through faith-strengthening companionship, sincere advice, visits, and mutual remembrance, earns divine love, shade, and reunion on the Day of Judgment.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Recaps the seven people promised Allah’s shade and focuses on two who love each other for Allah’s sake.
- Presents hadiths about divine shade, honored believers, and the sweetness of faith.
- Defines sincere love for Allah as friendship that brings someone closer to Allah through advice and encouragement.
- Distinguishes beneficial faith-centered relationships from relationships that benefit neither worldly nor religious life.
- Connects righteous love with Allah’s love, reunion in Paradise, and the promise that people are with those they love.
In the khateeb's words
“When you love your brother for the sake of Allah, rejoice.”
“And I ask Allah to resurrect me with Abu Bakr and Umar, even if I cannot match their good deeds.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that true friendship is not only about having fun or gaining worldly benefits. A friend who loves us for Allah’s sake helps us pray, keep family ties, and move closer to Allah. We can show this love by visiting one another, remembering Allah together, and giving sincere advice. The speaker reminds us that Allah loves those who love each other for His sake. He also gives hope that we may be gathered with the righteous people we love in the Hereafter.
- Who is someone who helps you become a better Muslim, and how do they help?
- What could you do this week to show a friend love for Allah’s sake?
- Which righteous person would you hope to meet in Paradise, and why?
