Worship only counts with sincere intention

“It is not just what we are doing, it is for whom we are doing it.”

The khateeb, at 10:24

In one sentence

Ramadan worship only benefits us when our actions are sincerely intended for Allah, so believers must continually purify their intentions in prayer, charity, fasting, and service.

Review past donations and good deeds, repent for any done for other than Allah, and ask Allah to purify them.
Give charity according to your means rather than comparing only the dollar amount.
When intending a bad deed, stop and change the intention; when intending a good deed, pursue it even if unfinished.

For the dinner table

On this final Friday of Ramadan, the khutbah reminded us that Allah gives us every breath and every moment, so our worship belongs to Him. Prayer, fasting, Qur'an, charity, and service are beautiful, but they only help us when we do them sincerely for Allah rather than for praise. Even a small gift can be precious when it is a real sacrifice, and we can ask Allah to purify past deeds whose intentions were mixed. As a family, we can check our intentions, give what we can, and keep praying for forgiveness, our loved ones, and people facing oppression.

  3. How can our family give in a way that reflects what we actually have?
