Parents must lead families toward Allah

“You ask your children if they did their homework.”

The khateeb, at 22:20

Muslim families must restore active religious leadership by prioritizing Allah, prayer, the Quran, and the Sunnah over wealth and worldly success, beginning with parents reforming themselves and guiding their households with compassion.

For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that caring for our families includes helping one another obey Allah, alongside meeting everyday needs. He urged us to begin with ourselves and to give prayer and good conduct attention in our homes, just as we give attention to homework and future careers. Through the example of Umar, he encouraged us to accept reminders and make changes when we recognize a mistake. He also warned that wealth and children can distract us from remembering Allah, and reminded us that we will answer for how we earn and spend our money. When family members need correction, he called for avoiding harshness, and he ended by asking Allah for peaceful homes and for our families to enter Jannah together.

  1. What makes a reminder feel kind and helpful to you?
  2. How could we use some of our money in a way that pleases Allah?
