Trust Allah's provision and find contentment

“Don't think that taking the easy way out or the shortcut is actually going to make you gain the rizq quicker.”

The khateeb, at 25:16

In one sentence

The khutbah argues that the feeling of never having enough is a scarcity mindset amplified by Shaytan and consumer culture, and that trusting Allah's provision, seeking it lawfully, practicing gratitude, and helping others brings contentment and barakah.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. Daily thoughts of not having enough leave people feeling inadequate, behind, and unfulfilled.
  2. Shaytan uses fear of poverty to open the door to immoral choices, while Allah promises forgiveness and bounty.
  3. Surah al-Takathur, prophetic teaching, hedonic adaptation, marketing, and social media explain endless dissatisfaction.
  4. Islam teaches that rizq is guaranteed by Allah, while the way it is sought determines whether it has barakah.
  5. The story of Ali shows that shortcuts and dishonesty do not increase one's destined provision.

For the dinner table

The khutbah says many of us begin and end the day feeling that we do not have enough. It teaches that Shaytan can use this fear to push us toward shortcuts or dishonest choices, while Allah promises provision and a way forward. Real contentment comes from trusting Allah, seeking what we need lawfully, and refusing to compare our ordinary lives with other people's polished images. This week, we can remember the waking dua, clean up our social-media feeds, help someone else, and thank a person who has helped us.

  1. What is one 'not enough' thought you noticed today, and what grateful thought could answer it?
  2. Which social-media accounts or comparisons make contentment harder, and what change could you make?
  3. Who could we help or thank this week to become a vehicle for good?
