Parents must pray for righteous children
“The best tool that Allah blessed us with as parents is the tool of dua.”
Parents should treat their children as a sacred trust by modeling Islam, nurturing righteous surroundings, and persistently making Quranic and prophetic duas for their guidance, protection, and righteousness.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Children are an amanah for which parents will be accountable, and dua is their greatest tool after sincere effort.
- The first two duas seek established prayer and protection from Satan, harmful creatures, and the evil eye.
- Three further Quranic duas ask for righteous offspring, family tranquility, and descendants who perform pleasing deeds.
- Parents should make these duas consistently at blessed times and remain patient when children resist guidance.
- Parents should replace curses with prayers for guidance, let children hear their duas, and teach children to seek their parents’ prayers.
- The khutbah closes by asking Allah to keep children and descendants steadfast amid harmful influences.
In the khateeb's words
“one of the most precious amanah that He gave us is our children and He will when we return to Him He will ask us about that amanah”
“the best tool that Allah blessed us with as parents is the tool of dua dua for the children”
“Allah hears every whisper and He sees every tear just be patient and be consistent and know that your child will go to places that you cannot go to”
For the dinner table
Our children are a precious trust from Allah, and caring for them includes living Islam at home, teaching them, and making dua for them. The khateeb shared five Quranic duas asking for steadfast prayer, protection from shaitan, righteous offspring, joy through our spouses and children, and gratitude, good deeds, and righteousness throughout our descendants. He reminded us that we need to work on our own example while asking Allah to guide our children. When change takes time, we should remain patient and consistent, remembering that Allah hears every whisper and sees every tear. He encouraged us to pray for our children with mercy, let them hear those loving prayers, and ask Allah to keep their hearts firm on His deen.
- What is one thing you would like us to ask Allah to help you with this week?
- What could we do together to make prayer feel more thoughtful and less rushed?
- How would you feel hearing someone in our family make dua for you?
