For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that shukr, or gratitude, is not only saying “thank you” to Allah. We should recognize our blessings with our tongues, feel their value in our hearts, and use our eyes, ears, time, money, and other abilities in ways Allah loves. The speaker encouraged us to make morning remembrance, repeat a supplication after each prayer, and pause during the day to notice blessings we often overlook. Gratitude is a lifelong project, and sincere gratitude is connected to Allah giving us more. When we misuse blessings, we should turn back, ask Allah for help, and practice better.

  1. What is one blessing you usually forget to notice?
  2. How could you use one of your abilities in a way that pleases Allah?
  3. What could remind you to make gratitude part of your daily routine?
