Worship should continue after Ramadan

“Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the Lord of Ramadan and He is the Lord of the rest of the month.”

The khateeb, at 6:28

In one sentence

The end of Ramadan should not end worship; believers should continue sustainable Quran recitation, prayer, charity, and voluntary fasting throughout the year.

For the dinner table

Ramadan teaches us to increase worship, but the sign of success is continuing good habits after Ramadan at a sustainable level. We can keep reading Quran each day, pray two rak'ahs before dawn when able, and use that quiet time to make du'a. We should keep giving charity and helping struggling relatives, neighbors, orphans, and others in need. The khateeb also encouraged six fasts in Shawwal, then voluntary fasting on Mondays and Thursdays or the 13th, 14th, and 15th, because Allah is the Lord of every month.

  1. What Ramadan habit would you like to keep every day?
  2. Who could we help with charity this week?
  3. Which voluntary fasts might our family try?
