Gratitude means using blessings responsibly

“Use the blessings that Allah has given us to build us a home in the hereafter.”

The khateeb, at 26:29

In one sentence

True gratitude for Allah’s blessings means recognizing their source, using them in obedience, appreciating people, and responding with humility and responsibility rather than arrogance or complaint.

The khutbah in 4 steps

  1. Defines gratitude as the proper response to Allah’s gifts and explains that every blessing is a test.

The khutbah teaches that every blessing from Allah is also a test of whether we will be grateful. Gratitude means using our gifts in good ways, remembering Allah, and not becoming arrogant or constantly complaining. We should also appreciate the people Allah uses to help us and repay kindness with kindness. At the masjid and in daily life, our Islamic responsibilities should guide our behavior even when personal feelings are difficult. Anyone given authority, whether at home, work, or in the community, should remember that responsibility comes with accountability.

  1. What is one blessing you sometimes overlook, and how could you show gratitude for it?
  2. Who has helped you recently, and how could you pass that kindness on?
  3. How can we act kindly toward someone even when we do not personally like them?
