Make salah a calm daily priority

“It's not about time, it's about priority.”

The khateeb, at 15:53

In one sentence

Muslims should strengthen their salah by perfecting wudu, praying on time and in congregation, and performing every recitation and movement calmly with focus.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Complete wudu carefully, especially hard-to-reach areas and between the toes.
  2. Avoid waswas after completing wudu properly.
  3. Pray salah on time by treating it as a priority.
  4. Men should attend congregational prayer in the masjid whenever reasonably possible.
  5. Ensure the lips move during recitation and follow the imam without preceding him.
  6. Develop tumakninah by practicing slowly, focusing deeply, and discussing improvement.

Check for dry spots during wudu and put fingers between the toes.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us to return to the basics and give our salah thoughtful attention. The khateeb encouraged us to wash carefully during wudu, then trust that we have done it properly and move on without repeated doubts. He asked us to make prayer a priority, leave enough time to pray peacefully, and encouraged men to attend the masjid when they can. During salah, he emphasized moving our lips when reciting, following the imam, and completing each movement calmly. We can keep improving by practicing in voluntary prayers, asking Allah for help, and talking together about how our salah can bring us closer to Him.

  1. What could help you get ready for salah before you feel rushed?
  2. Which part of your prayer would you like to practice more slowly this week?
  3. How could we encourage each other as we work on our salah?
