Build a home of mercy and faith

“You have to do what's merciful.”

The khateeb, at 21:08

In one sentence

Believers should build the afterlife's fortress of divine light by cultivating mercy and responsibility first within themselves, then in their homes, and finally in their community.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Explains the Qur'anic image of personally acquired light and a wall separating believers from hypocrites.
  2. Connects that light to faith and deeds formed in this world, not something borrowed at Judgment.
  3. Presents the home as a fortress of mercy, peace, learning, and shared spiritual strength.
  4. Warns against delay, doubt, false hopes, and social pressures that pull people toward sin.
  5. Distinguishes personal responsibility from limited control over family, rejecting abuse and coercion.
  6. Extends responsibility to the wider community, which helps families grow stronger together.

For the dinner table

Imam Saif compared faith to a light that cannot simply be borrowed at the end of life; it must be built into us through what we do now. He encouraged us to make home a fortress of mercy and peace, where family members find support in hardship and bring home what they learn from the masjid. He warned us not to delay apologies, responsibilities, or good actions, and not to let doubt, false hopes, or harmful social pressures steer us. We should take responsibility for our own choices, guide our families without abuse or coercion, and leave results to Allah. Finally, he reminded us that a healthy community helps families grow stronger together.

  1. What makes our home feel peaceful and merciful?
  2. What good thing have you been putting off?
  3. How can we help another family this week?
