Jannah is promised, so live with taqwa
“Jannah is a promise from Allah.”
Because Jannah is Allah's true, eternal, and certain promise, believers should cultivate taqwa, avoid haram, and fill their lives with sincere good deeds.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Calls listeners to taqwa and constant awareness of Allah.
- Introduces Jannah as perfect, eternal motivation amid worldly hardship.
- Explains that belief must be joined to righteous action and avoiding haram.
- Describes Jannah's permanence, pleasures, and incomparability through Quran and hadith.
- Connects hope in Jannah with coping with loss and remembering life's temporary nature.
- Depicts believers entering Jannah in groups and urges sincerity, dua, Quran, masjid, and righteous companionship.
- Closes with supplications for Jannah, guidance, Gaza, children, and avoidance of haram.
In the khateeb's words
“the true mu'min in dunya when he's in dunya he's in Jannah when he's in dunya with the difficulties of dunya he's in bliss”
“You have to be sincere. You have to be a person of dua. You have to be a person of Allah. You have to be a person of the masjid”
For the dinner table
Shaykh Ismail reminded us to keep Allah in our hearts and minds throughout our lives. He spoke about Jannah as Allah’s true promise of lasting happiness, comfort, and peace beyond anything we can imagine. This life has difficulties and disappointments, but remembering the hereafter can give us hope, including when we lose someone we love. He encouraged us to put our faith into action through prayer, reading Quran, giving charity, and staying away from what displeases Allah. He also described the joy of entering Jannah with good companions and prayed that the community would enter together.
- What part of the khateeb’s description of Jannah gave you something to look forward to?
- What good deed could we make a regular family habit this week?
- How can we help our friends remember Allah and do good?
