For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us to care for our spiritual hearts by working to remove jealousy, hatred, and grudges. We heard about a companion who cleaned his heart each night before going to sleep. Forgiving someone can help keep our hearts clean, and it does not mean we have to become close friends again. We also heard that shukr, or gratitude, means recognizing Allah’s blessings in our hearts, thanking Him with our words, and using His gifts for good. As a family, we can practice noticing everyday blessings, helping others, and asking Allah to help us stay grateful even when life is difficult.

  1. What could help you let go of an angry feeling before bedtime?
  2. What everyday blessing did you notice today, and how could you thank Allah for it?
  3. How could you use one of your abilities to help someone this week?
